ENERGY: Reliability & Affordability in

New England Forum*

November 17, 2017

8:30am - 12:30pm

*By Invite Only

New England's electricity costs are the highest in the contiguous US. Seven central generating plants, both oil and coal fired, as well as nuclear have or will shutter by 2019. The New England region will have lost about 30% of its generating capacity by then. While renewable projects and energy efficiency have helped close the gap between supply and demand, the gap is not closing fast enough.

ISO-NE is charged with ensuring reliability of the grid at competitive prices, operating the grid, managing the wholesale market and planning for the future of supply to the grid. This will help to protect the health of New England's economy and well being of it's people,by ensuring the constant availability of electricity. Come to this forum and hear from the President and CEO of ISO New England.

Keynote Speaker: Gordon van Welie

Gordon van Welie is President and Chief Executive Officer of ISO New England Inc., having previously served as the company's Executive Vice President and CEO. Mr. van Welie, in ISO's annual Regional Electricity Outlook Report, is more and more concerned about reliability of power and asociated ramifications. Here what he says about 2018 and the future.

TEC-RI, the membership organization for Rhode Island's large industrial, institutional and commercial energy users, has teamed up with National Grid to bring you a unique 3 part seminar series.

Attendees will learn about streamlined services provided by National Grid including, demand reduction systems, deeper energy dives and why solar installations now make financial sense for the commercial/industrial sectors. With minimal investment, you'll be able to drive energy expense dollars to your bottom line.

Session 1: March 30th
Managing Demand and Capacity Charges

Come learn about why demand and capacity charges will be significantly higher this summer and what you can do about it. This seminar will provide an overview of National Grid’s Demand Response Incentive Program as well as ISO NE programs. We’ll focus on peak load evaluation, avoiding installed capacity (ICAP) tags, and provide expert advice from energy advisors. One of Rhode Island’s leading manufacturers will describe how they managed their facility’s production to avoid significant demand charges. In addition, you'll learn about financing alternatives from C-PACE for your energy efficiency, renewables, and conservation projects.

Session 2: April 27th
Going Beyond Lighting Upgrades and VFDs

Have you already completed your LED lighting upgrade and installed VFDs? National Grid Industrial Initiative’s energy advisors will do a deeper assessment of your facility’s process to identify energy saving opportunities. An energy manager at one of RI’s largest industrial facilities will describe how he has succeeded in not only saving energy for the facility but also increasing comfort, life of equipment, and decreasing production time. Come learn how to sell your energy efficiency projects based on return on investment, net present value, and alternative financing product.

Session 3: May 25th
Solar & Financing Alternatives for Commercial Buildings

This seminar, you will learn how solar installations can be constructed on your land or roof with absolutely, "no out of pocket costs", including roof replacement. Case studies will demonstrate how this is possible. For those companies that want to own and pay for a solar system the Infrastructure Bank will show you how longer pay backs are advantageous to more costly projects.

The Energy Efficiency Series

TEC-RI, the membership organization for Rhode Island's large industrial, institutional and commercial energy users, has teamed up with National Grid to bring you a unique 3 part seminar series.

Attendees will learn about streamlined services provided by National Grid to install energy efficiency measures with minimal time investment that will drive energy efficiency dollars to their bottom line.  This seminar series is specifically oriented toward the large industrial energy user.

Session 1: Motors, Drives & Compressed Air
January 21, 2016

Variable frequency drives teamed with high efficiency motors in the right application provide control strategies and energy savings on exhaust fans, pumps, injection molding machines, and various other equipment. Leaky, poorly designed compressed air systems lead to high utility bills. Technical experts will provide information on how they assess energy saving opportunities in various applications providing National Grid rebates and incentives from the Energy Efficiency Rate Payer Program.

Session 2: Heat Recovery & Process Improvement Measures
February 25, 2016

Many industrial facilities have opportunities to utilize waste heat or free cooling from equipment or process, saving energy and equipment life cycle. Energy advisors will present on high efficiency technologies which provide process improvement and energy savings.

Session 3: Lighting & Control Strategies
March 24, 2016

While you may have upgraded your lighting systems in years past, technology is rapidly changing with new LED fixtures and control strategies on the market. Take advantage of incentives and rebates available from the Energy Efficiency Rate Payer Program through National Grid, while also attracting a return on investment.
