The Energy Council of Rhode Island (TEC-RI)
Who We Are
The Energy Council of Rhode Island is a membership organization made up of the largest users of energy in Rhode Island.
TEC-RI is a non-profit energy consortium, comprised of about 20 organizations. We consist of manufacturers, colleges & universities, hospitals, and other major business and institutional concerns.
We include some of the largest employers in the state. Our members provide over 40,000 Rhode Island jobs.
Our objective is to lower the cost of energy for Rhode Island businesses while preserving environmental quality and adequate supply.
At TEC-RI, our members provide good-paying, high-skilled manufacturing jobs. We take care of our sick, educate our young, and protect our country. We generate hundreds of millions of dollars of economic activity for Rhode Island and Rhode Islanders. We use a lot of energy to accomplish all that.
Our members are innovators in the retail energy marketplace. Our members are exploring on site wind turbines, building combined heat and power facilities, and are among the leaders in energy efficiency and innovative procurement approaches.
What We Do
TEC-RI regularly returns many times the value of the annual dues in benefits to members, year in and year out.
That's because we represent the financial interests of our large energy user membership at the major forums that determine energy policy and pricing for Rhode Island businesses.
Our bi-monthly member meetings provide a rich venue for unmatched information through our speakers program as well as the informal sharing that goes on between members.
We comment on nearly every relevant case that comes before the Public Utilities Commission, and intervene in important cases there as well.
We also provide expert testimony to the RI legislature when they consider key legislation that affects energy policy in Rhode Island.
TEC-RI engages other key interest groups and negotiates with them to advance policy measures that improve the standard of living for all Rhode Islanders.
TEC-RI represents the interests of large energy users as a member of the Electricity and Natural Gas DSM Collaborative and the Rhode Island Energy Efficiency Resource Management Council which formulates the State's energy efficiency policy. TEC-RI is a member of NEPOOL at ISO New England.
We collaborate with our sister organizations throughout New England.
We gratefully acknowledge the leadership and contributions of our former executive directors Roger Buck and John Farley who were the guiding force behind the growth and success of the organization for over 25 years.
